Pirate Borg - Session 2
The party fought off the undead in the cemetery tunnels, discovering a stash of grave loot, including a necklace granting temporary invisibility. Using it, Francois sneaked undetected through an old, unused door from the tunnels into the church, where he noticed that Father Wallace kept his chambers locked—unlike Rupert’s.
Later, the party met with Billy and his two co-conspirators, Edward and Martin, to overthrow The Black Diamond's captain and crew. They set up an ambush near the abandoned lighthouse, pretending to drink and relax around a fire to lower the crew’s guard. At the right moment, the party struck, swiftly killing the captain. In a prolonged fight, Francois showcased his sharpshooting skills, and by the end, nearly the entire crew was dead, including Billy. Only Edward, Martin, and Gaspar survived.
With the captain defeated, “The Bride” took command as the new captain of The Black Diamond, under the agreement that the crew split all the loot equally.
After taking control of The Black Diamond, the party headed to The Green Kraken tavern to drink and rest. Some members managed to “accidentally” stumble into two men having a hushed conversation, pretending to drunkenly fall asleep nearby to eavesdrop. They overheard valuable information: a heavily armed treasure fleet from Britain was en route to Port Royal to support the governor there. It is 4 weeks away. The fleet consists of three ships—a swift sloop acting as a lookout, a man-of-war carrying the treasure, and a heavily armed ship-of-the-line as additional defense.
The party decided to explore an abandoned castle across the island. This eerie fortress stood isolated, connected only by a rope bridge to the rest of the island. They scouted the area and discovered a cave entrance at low tide, reachable by dinghy. Inside the cave, they found a dungeon with another dinghy already docked.
In the dungeon’s cages, they saw six emaciated, tortured prisoners, including one who was clearly a defeated ship captain. The party chose to rescue these captives, bringing them back to safety on the main island before continuing their exploration.
Returning to the dungeon, they found a large table marked with strange dice. Triggering a hidden trap as they approached, they narrowly dodged a barrage of darts. Deciding to take a different route, they returned to the docks and ascended a spiral staircase, leading up to the back of a secret door. Beyond it, they heard pages turning and sad murmurs.
Esther quickly cast a sleep spell, rushing in only to find an empty library. All that remained was an open book, lying on the floor, with no sign of the mysterious reader.
After collecting themselves, the party ascended the stairs from the library to a grand master bedroom, where they found a black-haired woman asleep. Waking her, they realized she was Veronique, the governor’s daughter. Annoyed by their intrusion, Veronique refused to return with them, despite their claims of “rescuing” her. To satisfy her father’s request, she reluctantly gave them one of her large landscape paintings and a few books as proof of her identity. She then escorted the party to the castle's portcullis, letting them leave.
Back on shore, the party waited for their ship to pick them up. As they waited, they spotted three pairs of eyes watching them from the jungle but decided to ignore them, heading back to Coral Town as soon as possible to rest.
The next morning, they presented the painting to the governor, earning their 2,000 silver reward. Though he paid them reluctantly, he offered two new jobs:
- Another 2,000 silver to bring his daughter back willingly.
- A reward of 5,000 silver to investigate a rumored cult in the jungle, associated with a strange green light at night and disappearing without a trace.
The party now has new tasks to consider, with potential for even greater rewards.
