Pirate Borg - Session 3

The party decided to investigate the abandoned lighthouse as a vantage point to watch for the rumored green light. Exploring the dilapidated building, they found a journal from the former keeper, Cornelius Willem, detailing a conflict with his daughter, Famke, over a man she was seeing. The journal’s last entry, written shakily, was incomplete. At the top of the lighthouse, they found the smashed light and a broken section of railing, signs of an apparent struggle or attack. Suddenly, they were attacked by strange seagulls with missing legs and bizarre features like beaks made of forks and nails. After narrowly surviving, they discovered unusual treasure in the birds’ guts and leveled up.

Back on the ground floor, the party explored the cellar, taking two barrels of grog for their ship. They also uncovered a hidden passage to a small cave with a compass rose carved on the floor, surrounded by black candles—a clear sacrificial site that could amplify spellcasting.

When night fell, the party spotted the green light in the jungle and rushed to investigate. Finding footprints that abruptly stopped, they extinguished their torch and waited. Soon, a line of hooded figures, some in chains, arrived and opened a green portal. The party quickly followed them through, just before it closed.

On the other side, they found themselves on a small-scale ziggurat in an underground temple, surprising the cultists. A battle broke out across the temple chambers, with the party ultimately freeing the chained captives.

Other key chambers in the temple included:

  • A bone-walled room resembling the inside of a giant skull, with a lectern holding a mysterious book.
  • A room with an obsidian statue holding a spear, with an empty hand extended as if expecting an offering.
  • A blood-filled chamber with a ceiling hive made of bone and sinew, dripping blood into the pool below, clearly demonic in nature.

In addition to the other chambers, the party discovered a significant feature in the obsidian statue room: a hole in the wall with steps leading deep below. The staircase descended further than they could see, hinting at even more hidden layers within the cult’s underground temple, waiting to be explored.
