Pirate Borg - Session 6

The crew of the Red Monolith set sail for Havana but quickly realized they faced a significant problem: they lacked legitimate papers to verify their identity or origin. Embracing their pirate nature, they decided to resolve the issue by capturing another ship.

Hiding behind a small island near Cuba, just a day's journey from Havana, the crew waited for a suitable target. After three days, they spotted a brigantine—a ship slightly larger than their sloop—sitting low in the water, suggesting it was laden with valuable goods.

The crew attacked decisively, successfully overtaking the vessel. Some of the captured crew willingly joined the Red Monolith’s ranks, while the rest met a grim fate.

However, managing both ships proved impractical with their limited crew. Weighing their options, the crew decided to return to Nassau to recruit additional hands despite the risk of being discovered while undermanned.

The crew of the Red Monolith returned to Nassau with their captured brigantine, sparking interest among the locals. They paid the port entry fee for their new vessel and used the opportunity to recruit, successfully doubling their numbers. With a larger crew and legitimate papers, they set sail for Havana.

In Havana, they sold two cargos of wine, replenishing their funds, and explored the city. They noted the strong Spanish naval presence and the influential grip of the Church in the city. However, in the seedier taverns, they uncovered a curious rumor: people were abandoning the Church, drawn to a mysterious new faith.

Notably, whispers suggested that the bishop himself might be among the converts. A posted notice sought information on the bishop’s daily movements and activities, with suspicions of clandestine meetings involving creatures of the sea.

The crew attended a mass at the cathedral, where the bishop was present but not officiating. The priest conducting the service spoke at length about the city’s troubles, focusing on the emergence of a troubling new "faith." He read excerpts from its doctrines, which referenced sacrifices, elder gods, madness, and the end of the world, alarming the congregation.

After the mass, The Devil Fish was visibly disturbed. He revealed that the man they had come to rescue, Esteban Rodriguez—Señor Knife—was not a prisoner as they had assumed but the very bishop they had just seen.
